:::: About us ::::

Family-run for over 60 years

The guest house has been in the family's hands for three generations and the beautiful mountains of St. Christina, as well as the history and tradition of the family, make this place unique.

The origin of our house

The Heritage House Margherita has an eventful history. In 1955 Luis Comploj and Stefania Demetz (Fanny) got married. Luis was the youngest of 12 children of the Comploj Family from St. Christina and Fanny was the daughter of the famous entrepreneur and pioneer Leo Demetz and cousin of the well-known director Luis Trenker. In 1956 Luis and his brother Franz built the house, which was first used as a workshop for wood carvings and then as an office for the skiing world championships in 1970. It was later converted into a café and souvenir store, which Fanny ran with passion.

The foundation of the Margherita

Over time, the house was transformed into cozy vacation apartments and tourism in Val Gardena began flourishing. In 1987, Margherita, the daughter of Luis and Fanny, married Viktor Senoner, a former ski racer and artist. After Fanny's early death in 1990, Margherita took over the management of the house.

The development until today

In 2017 the house was passed to the next generation. Margherita’s and Victor’s son Gabriel lives here with his family. The house has been renovated and modernized to fulfill the newest standards maintaining its traditional charm. Here you can enjoy the wonderful Val Gardena and Family Senoner’s hospitality. Our small in-house museum offers a great insight into the long family tradition and Ladin culture.

Val Gardena ////// A place of natural and cultural heritage

Val Gardena’s culture and tradition are famous all over the world. The long tradition of wood carving art, the traditional costumes and the Ladin language are a vivid part of our culture. Like most families with roots in Val Gardena, we also grew up with the Ladin language, one of the oldest in the Alps.

~~~ Our garden ~~~
The perfect place to relax, surrounded by the breathtaking mountains.
Up in the mountains
Are you ready to enjoy the breathtaking nature among the majestic peaks of our mountains? Not only the panoramic circular hike of the mountain Sassolungo is spectacular, but also the other peaks of the Dolomites are waiting to be explored. Given that we are hiking guides and know the surrounding mountains like the back of our hand, we are happy to lead you on a hike and show you the best places, viewpoints, and mountain huts of the breathtaking surroundings of St. Christina.
Mountain hike to Sëurasas
A breathtaking mountain hike is an ascent to the Sëurasas mountain. The hike is perfect for guests of the Margherita, as the bus to the starting point stops right at our doorsteps. This means you can leave the car at home and focus on your hike exclusively.
Sunny plateau Monte Pana
The sunny plateau Monte Pana is located between St. Christina and the Alpe di Siusi. During summer people go hiking and during winter cross-country skiing there. Heritage House Margherita is only a few minutes from the chair lift, which will bring you right up to lofty heights. Breathtaking panorama, fresh mountain air, and far away from everyday stress. This plateau is also a very suitable place for children, because there are many facilities dedicated to them, for example on the beautiful PanaRaida trail.
Hiking to the Seceda
Those who know Gröden, know for sure the Seceda. You won’t get enough of the impressive peaks and the panoramic view of the Dolomites from the Sella group to Langkofel. Our hike goes from St.Christina to Ortisei above the Col Raiser and this mountain scenery will remain in your memories.
Winter activities
In Winter you can have a lot of fun in St.Christina. The mountain scenery offers the optimal conditions for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, winter hiking, cross-country skiing, and more.
Ski adventure Sellaronda
Winter enthusiasts can do the famous ski round called Sellaronda (the lift is only 2 minutes from Heritage House Margherita). Awesome panorama and varied slopes on 4 high passes of the Dolomites in Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arrabba, and Val di Fassa are waiting for you. We recommend this tour to experienced skiers because of the high difficulty level and length of the ski round.
Skiing area Seceda
The Seceda skiing area in the UNESCO Puez-Geisler Nature Park offers ski and snowboard enthusiasts a variety of slopes, from wide and sunny runs to challenging routes for advanced skiers. In addition, the cozy mountain huts with picturesque views of the snow-covered mountains offer wonderful opportunities to relax and enjoy the hospitality and culinary delights of South Tyrol.
Winterwonderland Seiser Alm
In winter, the Seiser Alm transforms into a winter wonderland and offers magical snowy trails, perfect for a walk amid the snow-covered peaks. The natural toboggan runs guarantee lots of fun for children and adults, and cross-country skiers glide over an extensive network of perfectly groomed trails that lead through snow-covered forests and over sunny high plateaus, offering incomparable views of the Dolomites.
Ladin for beginners
Quick Ladin crash course
The Ladin language is a Rhaeto-Romance language and one of the three main languages of the province of Bolzano. The language is spoken in two South Tyrolean valleys: Val Gardena and Val Badia. We have prepared a few expressions for daily usage, so you can learn a few words or sentences of this unique language. Immerse yourself in our culture!
Hello, in Ladin, as in the rest of South Tyrol, simply ‘Hoi’. In the morning, we greet each other with ‘Bon di!’
If you meet in the evening, you say ‘Bona sëira!’. A good night is wished in Ladin with ‘Bona nuet’.
And on the departure we greet with: ‘Assudëi!’
It’s easy: ‘Prëibel’ means ‘please’ and ‘de gra’ means ‘thank you’.
‘Me desplej’ means ‘I’m sorry’.
